Life Guard Certification
Train to become a certified YMCA lifeguard through hands-on instruction in water rescue, CPR, first aid, and emergency response skills.
The YMCA offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification courses for individuals interested in becoming certified lifeguards. This course is designed to teach participants the skills needed to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies in and around the water.
Participants will learn water rescue skills, CPR/AED, First Aid, and emergency response techniques through both classroom instruction and in-water training. Along with building lifesaving skills, this certification helps participants develop confidence, responsibility, leadership, and the ability to stay calm and respond quickly in emergency situations.
Lifeguard Certification is a great option for teens and adults who are interested in working as a lifeguard, gaining valuable safety training, or taking the first step toward a rewarding role in aquatics. The course is open to individuals ages 15 and older.
Lifeguard Certification is free for YMCA members and anyone interested in joining our aquatics team, making it a great opportunity to gain valuable skills and start a rewarding role at the Y. Plus, eligible lifeguard applicants may qualify for a sign-on bonus of up to $500 when they join the YMCA team!
Course dates, registration details, and additional information can be found on our YMCA social media channels as upcoming classes become available.
For any inquiries or questions about the certification, please contact Shawna Gordon, Association Aquatics Director at sgordon@dscymca.org.
