Decatur County Family YMCA Preschool
Our Story
At the Decatur County Family YMCA Preschool, we believe that every child deserves a strong start. That is why we have created a nurturing and developmentally rich learning environment where curiosity is encouraged, friendships are formed, and confidence takes root. As a licensed preschool rated Level 3 in Indiana’s Paths to QUALITY system, we are committed to supporting the whole child socially, emotionally, academically, and physically.
Guided by the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, our preschool team walks alongside children and their families to build a foundation that lasts well beyond the classroom. With experienced teachers who are CPR, AED, and First Aid certified, hands-on learning, and personalized attention, we help each child discover new skills and a lifelong love of learning. Every day is filled with playful, meaningful moments that encourage growth and spark joy.

A Place to Learn, Grow, and Belong.
At the Y, early childhood education is more than preparing for kindergarten. It is preparing for life. Our classrooms are filled with opportunities to explore, imagine, discover, and connect. Through structured play and engaging academic activities, children ages 3 to 5 build foundational skills in literacy, early math, communication, problem-solving, and self-regulation. Daily routines include circle time, creative arts, STEM activities, story time, outdoor play, and classroom jobs that encourage independence and collaboration.
Our relationship-based approach ensures every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated. We maintain a low 1 to 7 teacher-to-child ratio, which allows us to personalize learning and meet children right where they are. Families can choose from part-time or full-day care options that follow the academic calendar. We are committed to accessibility, which is why we offer financial assistance scholarships to qualifying families and accept CCDF vouchers. Every age group also participates in YMCA swim time, learning important water safety skills while building confidence in the pool.
Together, we help children learn, grow, and thrive. We set them on a bright and joyful path forward.

Preschool Ages
The Decatur County Family YMCA Preschool is designed for children ages 3 to 5 who are ready to learn, explore, and engage in a structured classroom environment. Our program supports a wide range of developmental needs during this important stage of growth. Children begin to build independence, social skills, and school readiness habits that prepare them for a smooth transition into kindergarten.
Children must be fully potty trained in order to enroll. Families should also be aware of the state guideline requiring children to turn age 5 on or before September 1 to enter kindergarten. This helps families make the best decision when choosing between our part-time preschool classes and the full-day option for older four and five year olds.
Whether a child is just beginning their first school experience at age 3 or taking the final steps toward kindergarten success at age 5, our nurturing and developmentally appropriate classrooms ensure that every child feels confident, capable, and excited to learn.
