The Decatur County Family YMCA After School Program provides a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children once the school day ends. After many years of the program being hosted at the YMCA facility, we're excited to bring care directly to participating school locations beginning the 2026-2027 school year. This expansion allows us to serve more children and make after-school care even more convenient and accessible for families.
While the program will no longer be hosted at the YMCA facility, it will continue to be fully operated by the YMCA. Families can expect the same caring staff, dependable support, and welcoming environment where children can learn, build friendships, stay active, and enjoy their time after school.
Children in the program enjoy homework help and tutoring, enrichment activities, and time for play and physical activity throughout the afternoon. Our team works to create a welcoming environment that supports both academic success and personal growth, while also giving kids the opportunity to unwind, explore new interests, and have fun after school.
Each day is structured to balance learning, movement, and social interaction, helping children feel supported and encouraged as they finish out their day. Families can count on the YMCA to provide a program that is consistent, dependable, and focused on the well-being of every child.

Homework Help
Dedicated time each afternoon for students to complete homework with support from caring staff, helping build strong study habits and academic confidence.
Activities
A balance of organized activities, games, and open play that encourages physical movement, teamwork, and fun in a safe environment.
Crafts & Creativity
Hands-on art and creative projects that allow children to explore imagination, self-expression, and problem-solving skills.
Build Friendships
Intentional opportunities for children to connect with peers, develop social skills, and grow in confidence through positive relationships and encouragement.

The After School Program accepts CCDF vouchers, YMCA Financial Assistance, and DCS vouchers.

Meet Danielle!
Danielle Morgan serves as the After-School Coordinator and brings eight years of experience with the Decatur Shelby County YMCA, where she has held multiple roles including lead preschool teacher, after-school counselor, camp counselor, and Summer Camp Director. She is passionate about creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment where children can learn and thrive. Originally from Ohio and a Greensburg resident since 2013, Danielle is a proud mom of six who loves family fun nights, has a huge board game collection, enjoys the fall season, and believes laughter—and a good cup of coffee—makes every day better.
Meet Shelby!
Shelby Shafer-Zapfe serves as the Afterschool Coordinator and has been working at the YMCA for the past three years. A lifelong Westport resident, Shelby is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming environment where children can grow, feel supported, and simply be themselves after school. She values building strong relationships with families and offering reliable support and peace of mind. Shelby is certified in Mental Health First Aid and has training in family leadership and behavior management, allowing her to thoughtfully support the children and families in her care.
