At the YMCA, we believe the future of our community starts with investing in our young people.
That’s why opportunities like the Opportunity Expo matter. Hosted at Greensburg Community High School, the event brought together Decatur County juniors and seniors with local employers and community organizations to explore what’s possible after high school.
For many students, this may have been their first real conversation about internships, part-time jobs, or summer employment. It was a chance to ask questions, gather information, and begin connecting the dots between classroom learning and real-world experience. Exposure to these opportunities helps students better understand not only what jobs exist, but what skills and habits lead to long-term success.
Representing the YMCA were Dawn Ernstes, Director of Community Engagement, and Bridget Eastwood, Director of People Operations. They spoke with students about the many opportunities available at the Y - from lifeguarding and childcare to summer camp and member services - and how those roles help build leadership, responsibility, and confidence.
At the YMCA, employment is about more than filling shifts. It’s about developing people. A first job can be a powerful milestone - one that teaches communication, accountability, teamwork, and problem-solving in ways that last far beyond high school. These early experiences often shape how young people see themselves and what they believe they are capable of achieving.
We are grateful to the Greensburg/Decatur County Economic Development Corporation and the school’s Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program for creating space for students and employers to connect. When schools, businesses, and community organizations work together with a shared focus on youth development, the impact reaches well beyond a single event.
If you’re ready to grow, lead, and serve in your community, we encourage you to explore current job openings at the YMCA and consider joining our team!
