Guitar Classes
Beginner and intermediate guitar lessons that teach chords, rhythm, and the joy of playing music.
Guitar Lessons at the YMCA give youth, adults, and older adults the opportunity to explore music in a supportive and encouraging environment. Whether participants are picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to build on basic skills, this program focuses on confidence, creativity, and the joy of learning something new.
Participants will learn foundational guitar skills such as how to hold the instrument, play basic chords, practice strum patterns, and read simple notation. Lessons are designed to help each participant grow at a comfortable pace while building musical confidence in a fun, low-pressure setting.
Group Guitar Lessons are offered at the Shelby County YMCA for multiple age groups, including youth ages 6–12, adults ages 18+, and adults ages 50+ through the Silver Strings class. Each session provides a welcoming space for participants to connect with others, practice new skills, and enjoy the creative benefits of music.
